Kaitlyn, Sarah C., and I hiked up and down the streets in search of döner for lunch. We kept getting sidetracked by cute shops or old bookstores so we didn’t find any döner before 14:00 (when we had to meet back with the group). At this group meeting, we were given two assignments:
We then went to a cafe and ate Schnitzel and Pommes Frites for lunch. It was spectacular! After that, we started hiking up the hill to the Schloss (castle) and we stopped many people on our way to ask what our phrases meant. My two phrases were: Langer Lulatsch - a tall man (or giant) Schäferstündchen - to be close to your lovely boy After touring the castle for a bit, we walked back down the hill and shopped! I only bought one shirt and some lemon wafers, but it was still a successful day! We then looked around the Cathedral a bit (it was very architecturally pleasing) and headed back toward the train station. On our way, Sarah C. and I stopped to get döner (because we finally found a place that sold it) and I tried my first döner! It was delicious, but not all that it’s hyped up to be. Over all, it was a very entertaining day! | Yesterday (Sunday), I was able to Skype with my family (mom, dad, brother, Nana, Bobby, Imogene, Todd, Mary Anne and Mike) all at once, which was great to see everyone! We only got to talk for a few minutes, and it was a really bad internet connection, but it was so worth it! Today (Monday), I received two cards, both from my mother! She sent me a note that my friends had left me and a bag of my favorite tea! Germany is still sehr Gut und I cannot wait to meet my host family on Saturday! |
On Saturday, we trekked up to the city center of Marburg (a 54 minute train ride away from Bad Laasphe and then a thirty minute walk to the square). It was rainy and unpleasant in the morning but soon cleared up and it was hot and sunny for the remainder of the day.
