We had so much fun in D.C. and I absolutely cannot wait to get to Germany, get to language camp and meet my host family!
I’m currently sitting in the airport and anxiously awaiting our flight! I’m trilled because I have a window seat! Luckily, we have wifi right now but I probably won’t have it for the next three days!

I’m so excited to share my journey with you and I am hopeful that the coming year will be a very good experience!
So I went hiking with some of my friends yesterday and one friend showed us a Geocache that his sister had found atop the mountain. It was so neat because people left little trinkets in the box and kept a log of who visited and when. Tonight, my best friend and I went searching for a Geocache near my house. Unfortunately, we didn’t find it because it was pitch black, but we plan on looking again tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll be able to go Geocaching in Germany (because there are Geocaches EVERYWHERE in Europe!).
Although I’m not sure what version of the Bible this scripture is derived from, it really speaks to me.
The King James Version reads, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." The quote “Shine your light on the world,” has the same good-hearted intention behind it. Either way, this scripture is now one of my favorites and I will remember it during all of my travels. Well, I’ve done it. I’ve made it through high school! My last day was this past Friday and it couldn’t have been more bittersweet. I’m sad that I’m leaving all of my friends (and I’ll admit, I’ll miss my teachers too). I’ll miss the structure of school and all the comforts that brings me. However, I am excited to head off into the unknown. There are many things I won’t miss about high school as well, but I won’t get into those…
I graduate this coming Friday (FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH!!) and instead of becoming a college freshman, I’ll be a senior in high school yet again. Although, this time around, I’ll be speaking German (hopefully!). I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunities before me! However, I am starting to feel a bit of the pressure. The CIEE CBYX finalists recently received our program manuals. There are so many rules! Not only am I not allowed to drive motorized vehicles, I’m not allowed to get married while I’m a participant! Also included in our manual, is a suggested packing list. It’s scary to think that in just 46 days, I’ll be arriving in Washington D.C. for our pre-departure seminar. I’ve purchased Rosetta Stone and I’m attempting to learn German! I haven’t gotten a host family yet, but I hope that I will soon! So even though this is the end of my (AMERICAN) high school career, it is not the end. It is simply the beginning of a very grand adventure called life. I am constantly thinking about how exciting the coming year will be!
Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange, or CBYX, is a scholarship program started in 1983 (I think!) that sends 250 students from the U.S. to Germany and 250 students from Germany to the U.S. every year. I am so blessed to have received this scholarship and am planning on spending my gap year abroad! The first few weeks in Germany, I will be living in a castle in Bonn with the 50 other students from the southeast U.S. We will attend culture and language classes and get our first taste of the German lifestyle. For more information about this program and/or how to apply, please visit the Congress-Bundestag website (http://www.usagermanyscholarship.org/). You can also take a look at the CIEE webpage (http://www.ciee.org/highschool/students/congress-bundestag-outbound.aspx), the group affiliated with the southeast U.S. I am anxiously awaiting to find out who my host family is going to be! Until then, I have a lot of schoolwork, soccer games, graduation, and attempting to learn German to keep me preoccupied! Auf Wiedersehen, Lyndee Don’t forget to follow my Instagram for all the latest posts and updates!
Find it here: Lyndee's Instagram It’s official, I will be spending the coming school year as an exchange student in Germany! I am so blessed to have this opportunity! After my gap year, I plan on attending Appalachian State University in the Fall of 2015, Lord willing. Thank you to everyone who has supported me during the decision making process!
